Supreme Court to Hear Argument on MATS Rule in March 2015

On March 25, 2015, The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments against the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) to decide whether EPA unreasonably refused to consider costs in determining that it is appropriate to regulate hazardous air pollutants emitted by coal- and oil-fired electric generating units (EGUs).  

The final ruling is not expected to be published until after the MATS Rule compliance date comes into effect on April 16, 2015, unless the requested one-year extension is granted.
