New EPA Utility MACT Rule

The EPA is developing air toxins emissions standards for power plants under the Clean Air Act.  EPA intends to finalize their air toxins standards for coal- and oil-fired electric generating units by November 16, 2011.

On March 16, 2011, EPA released a new proposed Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) standard to limit hazardous air pollutant emissions from all coal- and oil-fired power plants.  The new rule will require every power plant to meet the same numeric emissions limits, which would require the installation of additional pollution control equipment.
